Montmartre Watchworks

Montmartre Watchworks is a French watch microbrand that takes it's name from the Montmartre district in central Paris, where the microbrand is based. Montmartre is a hillside area, that dominates the surrounding landscape, and boasts an eclectic artists' village that was home to luminaries such as Dali and Picasso. At the base of the hill lies the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret, with it's iconic four armed windmill. This is reflected in Montmartre Watchworks' logo, (which illustrates the arms of the windmill,) as well as on the second hand sub-dial on Montmartre's MW5 chronograph, which we think is a really nice touch.

The creator behind the Montmartre Watchworks name is Robert Morrison, a very successful and creative architect with an amazing sense of taste and thoughtful balance in his designs, that also shows in Montmartre's watches. Here we can find some wonderful barrel-shaped true tonneau watch cases with a nice mix of brushed and polished finishes, and lume in the case's four cardinal points, a hallmark of this microbrand, and something we've not encountered before. Combined with an eclectic color palette with dial colors such as sage that surely would've delighted some of Montmartre's painting masters, not to mention some interesting Swiss movement choices, Montmartre Watchworks has produced some of the most intriguing tonneau watches to come out of the microbrand space.
